Amidst the cries of the destitute, a man questioned God, "Why aren't you doing something to save desperate people? Can't you see the widow lamenting, the orphan crying, the crippled bearing pain?" God replied, "My servant, I have done what I needed to do." The man asked again, "What have you done, oh God?" God answered, "I have created you to do the rest,.This profound message underscores the purpose of creation: to help those who are helpless. Embracing this purpose, the Jammu and Kashmir Yateem Trust was altruistically established on 24th July 1972 by the late Abdul Khaliq Tak, affectionately known as Tak Zainagiri. A selfless philanthropist, an able academician, and an efficient administrator, he served as the founder Patron of the Trust until he departed for his heavenly abode on 24th July 1989, coincidentally the same day the Trust was founded and registered in 1973. Legacy and Continuation: The demise of Tak Zainagiri was a significant blow to the Trust, but the resolve of its members and well-wishers remained steadfast. Overcoming numerous challenges, the J&K Yateem Trust has become a beacon of hope for the destitute, a voice for the voiceless, and a purpose of life for its members. PATRON’S DESK With 80 branches spread across the valley, parts of Jammu, and Ladakh, the Trust operates 13 full-fledged orphanages, 15 craft centers, and various schemes to support the downtrodden and destitute. Crores of rupees are being spent for the welfare of its beneficiaries, irrespective of any discrimination. Commitment and Integrity: What has sustained the torch of selfless service for over 52 years? It is the sincerity, purity of purpose, and selfless service of its members and volunteers. All Trust members serve the nation without claiming any remuneration, wages, or favors, seeking only the pleasure of their God. Public donations are the Trust's sole income source, with people placing confidence in the charitable work performed by the members. Donations of Zakat and Sadqat are dedicated to the welfare of the suffering. Reassurance and Gratitude: In the following pages, we provide a summary of the Trust's activities during 2023-24. We reassure our donors that every penny of their donation will be spent solely for the benefit of orphans and widows in accordance with Shariah, as has always been done in the past. An evaluative assessment of the working of the J & K Yateem Trust from its inception to present day reveals a history of attempts and efforts to come to terms with the avowed and declared objectives of the Trust against the backdrop of hostile circumstances let loose by the tumultuous situation in the valley. On the one hand inhospitable circumstances effected adequate generation of funds and human resource on the other it tested the resilience and resolve of persons associated with the Trust to face the odds with courage and determinations. Besides the circumstances were such that only increased the number of orphans and widows thereby adding to the quantum of challenge. The fact that J & K Yateem Trust has proved to be one of the best social service organizations in the Valley with its support system for orphans, widows and destitutes bespeaks of the sincerity, commitment and dedication of its members who have been working tirelessly to realise the purpose they committed themselves to. Every actual realization of set objectives also reveals the shortfalls and shortcomings that go along with it, displaying a disharmony between aspiration and realization. When we evaluate our working, our endeavour must be to overcome the deficiencies that marred our perfect delivery of services to the public. If we served the weaker section of the society, we must serve them better so that their limitations do not become their liabilities and not enabling them to live a respectable and relevant social life. We must also focus on what was left out and not attended to.

There must be an insistent and consistent attempt to increase our outreach with proper planning, keeping in view result-oriented outcome of our efforts.

We have been doing well and let us be doing better.
